Founded in 1947, M.G.M. Motori Elettrici S.p.A. has specialised in the production of electric brake motors since its foundation and has become one of the world's leading manufacturers in this field.

It has a production plant in Serravalle Pistoiese (PT), Italy, and a warehouse and commercial office in Assago (MI). Abroad, it operates offices in Montreal (Canada), Detroit (USA), Chennai (India) and İzmir (Türkiye).

This global presence is supported by a sales and technical service distributor network in more than 80 countries.

Founder

Engineer Carlo Ghieri

Born in Monsummano in 1926, Carlo Ghieri studied mechanical engineering and began working in his father's business at the age of 20. The family company first produced various machines, then standard electric motors. Following the market success of the brake motor, he focused M.G.M. Motori Elettrici on this product.

The first motors were army green — paints left behind in Italy by American soldiers after the Second World War were used. Later, the company switched to the blue that is the brand's symbol today.

1947

M.G.M. Motori Elettrici was founded in Monsummano Terme (PT) and the first electric brake motors were produced.

1968

The first warehouse and commercial office opened in Milan, laying the foundation of today's Assago facility.

1970

The production plant moved to Serravalle Pistoiese (PT).

1984

The one-millionth brake motor of the CF series was produced.

1988

The BM and BA brake motor series were born.

1996

It was among the first companies in its sector in Italy to obtain the ISO 9001 certificate.

1998

CSA certification was obtained for the North American market, followed by the CCC, EAC and BIS certificates.

2006

The first overseas branch opened in Montreal (Canada).

2008

The USA branch opened and moved to Detroit in 2015.

2011

MGM-VARVEL Power Transmission was established in Chennai (India). The AEO and BS OHSAS 18001 certificates were obtained the same year.

2013

The test laboratory was accredited under the SMTC-ISO 17025 programme, becoming able to perform in-house the safety and efficiency tests required for CSA certifications.

2014

A photovoltaic plant was installed on the roof of the Serravalle Pistoiese facility, and a geothermal system was commissioned for air conditioning.

2016

The İzmir (Türkiye) office opened.

2019

The BIS certificate was obtained.

2024

The photovoltaic plant was expanded, also covering the energy needs arising from the transition of the vehicle fleet to electric motors.
